The poor economy has forced Dallin to return to prostitution to avoid homelessness, but when his old pimp hooks him up with a wealthy Dom, Dallin figures it's too good to be true. William is older, wealthy, experienced, and a complete dominant. He's the sort of man who can go to a club and pick up a dozen subs, and yet he wants to hire Dallin.
William knows how to succeed in finance and the bedroom, but trying to keep a relationship going is a far more difficult proposition. Instead of dealing with the messy reality of the club scene or dating, he decides to hire a sub. While William would like to have a long-term relationship develop, he's not expecting anything. However the longer he plays with Dallin, the more he realizes that he wants more.
Dallin is willing to give his body to William--he enjoys the bondage, the games, and ropes and toys. He's more wary about trusting William with his heart. William is a master of domination, but for Dallin he wants to learn to love.
Two Steps Back Lyn Gala Books
This was a really good book. I love the way the Author incorporates BDSM element into her book without going into the whole protocol, posturing elements.William is the nicest sadist I have ever met in a book. He might push the envelope physically but he respects Dallin's physical boundaries and is careful with Dallin emotionally. He doesn't want someone fearful or uncertain, he said he wanted a partner and that is what he worked for. He also spectacularly failed in this on a couple of occasions, but that wasn't when they were in scene. I liked him from the start, he is a quirky character, who has a hard time interacting socially but he is a decent man. I also really liked the fact that William was an attractive man in his late 30's / early 40's but he wasn't a demonic, pointy-beard sadist (which happens in a lot of books) instead he had a baby face, was slightly overweight but Dallin still thought he looked lovely. A normal looking guy, what a shocker!
Dallin is a fantastic MC, he was kicked out of his house at 16, did what he needed to do to survive and once he had a chance to change his life around he grabbed on with both hands. We meet him when the recession has hit him hard and he has decided to go back to prostitution in order to survive. I really admired and liked Dallin, he is 23 and yet an old soul.
I won't go into the story here, but I loved the two MCs relationship, there interactions were both funny and loving practically from the start. Dallin needed to learn how to trust and William needed to learn how to support rather than take over. I was rooting for Dallin to get his HEA, he deserved it and so did William and I was delighted with the fact that the Author managed to give them a HEA, but not a fairytale one instead they got a real solid future together.
I also really enjoyed Dallin dealing with his brother and William's over-protective instincts. I was totally engrossed in Dallin and William's story and will definitely be reading this book again.

Two Steps Back Lyn Gala Books Reviews
This novel took me by surprise. I am not comfortable with the thought of BDSM… which this novel contained… but, it told an unlikely pairing of men who although as different as chalk and cheese more importantly had vital and essential parts that matched. A great love story.
I actually managed to read the whole book without putting it down. Messy and hit and kinky and sad. It had a bit of everything.
And Dallin was so sweet and lovable that you had keep reading to make sure it was a HEA. Ok fair enough 99.9% of books has a HEA. But I think Dallin did right the end.
These two guys just warmed my heart with all of there ready willingness to cross lines and step all over themselves to take care of each other. This was much more fluffy and comforting than I expected. I loved it.
Gala has created an M/M Pretty Woman scenario with a BDSM twist. Dallin is forced to fall back on hooking when his design business is hit hard by the economic downturn. Fortunately, he gets hooked up with a wealthy client looking for a long term contract. Dallin's independence outside of the bedroom and William's control issues in and out of the bedroom clash believably as these two people who have limited ability to communicate find a way to acknowledge their feelings for one another.
I suspect that the premise and set up scenes of this book were inspired by one of my all-time favorite fanfics, but if true, it's forgivable because the author makes these characters and this story her own. I love how Dallin and William navigate their relationship, and I was cheer for them in the end. The sex scenes were extremely hot and the emotional angst was satisfying. Well done!
Yum. I truly enjoyed this book. The plot and the sex were scintillating. A writer myself, I have a tendency to skip over the sex scenes. Not this one. And the characters? Loved them. Not cardboard cut outs. Genuine. William's quirkiness complemented his strength. He and Dallin were perfect for me. I've already bookmarked my favorite parts and can't wait to read it again.
Two Steps Back focuses on what seems to be a typical rent-boy/sugar-daddy story, but the characters (even the secondary characters) surprised me throughout this book. I'm always particularly pleased when the minor characters feel as real as the main characters.
I buy this author's stories because her characters are complicated and interesting and compelling. Dallin and William are just as complex as I was hoping. Although the story is told from Dallin's point of view, I definitely felt the impact of William's emotions and struggles. I had to put my down during some of the scenes because I couldn't see through the tears. These two characters conquered my heart, and I feel like l ran the emotional gauntlet with them. I worried with them. I hurt with them. I hoped with them. I rejoiced with them. What a satisfying read!
To top it off, that last chapter gave me a shock...in a good way. I did not see that revelation coming, and now I cannot wait to read this story again!
